VIRTUES OF BISHOP ADOBOH FACILITATED HIS PLACE WITH CHRIST IN HEAVEN

The virtues of the late Bishop Peter Adoboh while on earth are sure indications of his being with Christ in heaven; and the race is now for us he left behind to continue; so that we also can be part of the heavenly Choir, when our time comes. This indication was given by the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) and Archbishop of Benin City, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, in his speech at the funeral of the late Most Rev.  Peter Iorzul Adoboh, the first Catholic Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese.

Bishop Adoboh, 62, who died at the Daughters of Charity Hospital, Abuja on February 14, this year, was buried after a funeral Mass at the Emmanuel Akume Atongo Stadium, Katsina-Ala, Benue State, on Wednesday, March 14, 2020.  The ceremony was attended by about 26 members of the Catholic Bishops’ Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), led by its President, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze; Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State; the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Titus Uba, the Tor Tiv. HRM Professor James Ayatse; dignitaries from all walks of life, Priests, Religious and lay faithful from different parts of the country.

According to the CBCN President: “We believe that God whom he served so well while on earth will not abandon him, but will grant him a place in his heavenly kingdom.” He noted that as the first Bishop of Kastina-Ala Diocese, the late Bishop Adoboh left indelible pastoral footprints for which he will be remembered; adding that “he was a man of peace; who was at the forefront of mediating for peace in Katsina-Ala”.

While expressing optimism that the late bishop will intercede for the faithful of the diocese, his brother bishops and the Nigerian nation in general, while in heaven, the CBCN president declared: “Bishop Peter Adoboh has gone before us to prepare for our coming. What we are now, he was, where he is now we also will be. Let us prepare every day for our own death, so that when the day comes, it will not take us by surprise”.

Archbishop Akubeze expressed gratitude for all those who stood by the deceased while he was on the sick bed, especially the Bishops of Abuja Province, Priests, Religious and lay faithful of Katsina-Ala Diocese; assuring that “death is not the end of our lives”; but only “a transition to a higher state.  … Heaven is our final destination and for those who live in Christ, they are sure to rise with Him on the resurrection morning. We believe that Bishop Peter Adoboh will rise again on the resurrection morning.”
