CSN WORKERS URGED TO EMBRACE COLLABORATIVE MINISTRY

Workers of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) and other agencies of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) have been admonished to embrace collaborative ministry in the discharge of their various duties to facilitate the evangelization apostolate of the church in the country. The admonishment was made by the Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna Archdiocese, while facilitating the 2017 Annual Retreat of the CSN held in Abuja, recently. The retreat which was to kick-start work for the New Year was attended by about 300 workers from different parts of the country where the CBCN has functional offices.

Speaking on the theme: Team Work or Collaborative Ministry, Archbishop Ndagoso noted that for the Church to successfully continue the missionary mandate of Jesus Christ, workers of the Church must collaborate and cooperate in using their different talents and charisms to serve the church and the people and help the Bishops to achieve their spiritual and pastoral objectives.

Using several Biblical references and other teachings of the Church to buttress his point, Archbishop Ndagoso noted that the collaborative efforts of the Apostles and the early Church made the people to embrace Christianity; and for the church in Nigeria to continue this missionary apostolate, the workers of CSN and other agencies of the CBCN have a major role to play because “they are the face of the church”.

Outlining the qualities that can enable the workers to serve the church as directed by Christ, the retreat facilitator urged them to eschew jealousy, envy, unnecessary competition, complexity and desire for power.  He added that every worker is very important and paramount to the collective success of the different departments of the secretariat; adding that mutual respect, love and appreciation must be the guiding principles of the entire workforce.

Earlier in his opening address, Archbishop Ndagoso described retreat as a necessary factor for the life of man as it enables an effective spiritual reflection on the past with a view of shaping the present and plan for a better future.

He described retreat as a spiritual encounter with God and a period that the Holy Spirit can talk to us, if we are in the right perspective for the encounter.  He urged the workers to put everything aside during the period to spiritually reflect on the past year and amend the mistakes of the year to enable them serve God and humanity better in the New Year and the future.

Archbishop Ndagoso also spoke on the importance of stewardship noting that honesty, accountability, solidarity and subsidiarity are essential qualities for successful missionary work in all church offices.  He enjoined the workers to embrace all these qualities to enable them work in harmony, love and peace and in the final analysis serve the Church and the people better to the greater glory of God.
