POPE FRANCIS STRESSES IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE HUMAN PERSON

 The Holy Father, Pope Francis had reiterated the importance of the integral development of the human person, the preservation of the environment, fight against injustice and the need for adequate policies to protect the interests of migrants. The Pope made the remark while receiving in audience President Alpha Conde of the Republic of Guinea, at the Vatican, recently.

 

According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the discussions between the pope and the Guinean President was cordial, evoking the existing good relations between the Holy See and Guinea.

 

In this context, the statement continued, “the parties did not neglect to highlight the role and the important contribution offered to the country by Catholic institutions, particularly in the fields of education and healthcare, as well as in the promotion of interfaith dialogue with the Muslim community.” The two leaders also discussed the political and social situation of the Region, with special reference to the concrete effort made by the Republic of Guinea to contribute to peacemaking.

 

 At a similar meeting with the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas; the Pope and his guest revisited the “sealed Global Agreement of 2015, which regards essential aspects of the life and activities of the Church in Palestinian society”.

 

According to the statement released by the Holy See Press Office, discussions between the two leaders focused on the important contribution of Catholics to favoring the promotion of human dignity and assistance for those most in need, especially in the fields of education, health and aid.”

 

Also discussed was the peace process in the Middle East, and hope was expressed that direct negotiations between the Parties may be resumed to bring an end to the violence that causes unacceptable suffering to civilian populations, and to find a just and lasting solution.

 

  “To this end,” the statement noted, “it is hoped that, with the support of the international community, measures can be taken that favour mutual trust and contribute to creating a climate that permits courageous decisions to be made in favour of peace.

 

 Emphasis was placed on the importance of safeguarding the sanctity of the Holy Places for believers of all three of the Abrahamic religions. Finally, particular attention was dedicated to the other conflicts affecting the region.
