CONTINUOUS REORIENTATION OF PEOPLE VITAL FOR GLOBAL PEACE

The Executive Secretary of the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (Caritas Nigeria); Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey has emphasized the importance of formation and reorientation of people on the importance of global peace. He added that this can be achieved through continuous conscientization and sensitization.
Fr. Bassey, who is also the Director of Church and Society, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN) gave this admonition while reviewing the Book: Peace, Studies and Conflict Resolutions; written by Rev. Fr. Chris Anyanwu, the Director of Social Communications (CSN). The ceremony which took place at Chida Palace Hotel International, Abuja; was to mark the 50th Birthday anniversary of the author.
According to the CCFN Executive Secretary: “people will only live in a less conflict environment if they rise above their personal interests, religion, tribe, beliefs and value system.” He continued: “if we learn to co-exist with others irrespective of any differences, if we are able to communicate effectively to avoid violence and negotiate positive approaches to addressing conflict, then we are definitely close to the call to relish the beauty of peace, a call which Fr. Anyanwu offers us today.”
According to him, the book makes an attempt to shape young minds through the constant projection of peace as a tool “which arguably will be instrumental to their securing a hitch free future”. The reviewer noted that while peace is like happiness which every human being desires
and treasures, it is being achieved by a few on an enduring basis. He added: “Fr. Chris aptly captures that the threat to peace shortens life expectancy and brings untold hardship on the indigent and feeble people in the society.”
